If you’re ever at home, and want to try something different, from your normal fast food preference. You can try an Ackee, and Saltfish dish. Ackee first came to Jamaica in the 1700s where it became the national fruit. Salt Fish and Ackee, or Ackee and Saltfish as some people say, can be eaten anytime, but it is very common to have it for Breakfast, or lunch. It can be accompanied by a wide variety of other local foods .Such as boiled Green Banana, Festival, Yams, Fried Ripe Plantain, Avocado, Hard-dough Bread, and/or Roast Breadfruit.
To make this dish you will first start by
washing the Saltfish other known as cod fish in cold water, and then for 1 hour
boil in hot water. You can change the
water every 30 minutes. Then after heat the oil in a medium frying pan over
medium temperature, and then add the chopped garlic, the thyme, onions,
scallions, pepper, and anything else you prefer to give a taste of your liking.
Stir the entire mix as needed. Then add the prepare Saltfish to the frying pan,
and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring as needed. Add the Ackee to the same frying
pan, and simmer for another 2 minutes. After all of this is done, turn off the
stove, and enjoy.
This
recipe is not really challenging, and if you’re a beginner at cooking, you can
still do this dish. But if you’re a person that do not like to try new types of
food, this is not for you .This Ackee, and saltfish dish can bring a new
flavor, and enjoyment in your life. With just one taste, it can set you up with
a life time of great Caribbean food. The choice is Always yours.
